Uses :


  • Omeprazole is used to treat certain conditions where there is too much acid in the stomach. It is used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers, erosive esophagitis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). GERD is a condition where the acid in the stomach washes back up into the esophagus.

The inhibitory action of omeprazole was found to depend on acid induced transformation of omeprazole into an active inhibitor of the gastric H+K+ATPase, as no inhibition was obtained when omeprazole was incubated under neutral conditions with either the isolated gastric mucosal or the H+K+ATPase preparations.
